David Friedman

When one looks at David’s career, three themes became apparent.  He is always on the leading edge of introducing new products, some truly innovative and new to the world.  In fact, innovation and making that innovation relevant to customers is his passion and he contributes regularly to the entrepreneurial and start-up communities in southern California.   Second, he is able to set a vision for a business and is able to execute on that vision and grow profitable revenue.  Third, he is able to build human capital by mentoring managers to become the next generation of leaders.  As a CEO of his own consulting practice, Performance Marketing Group, he has been the highly valued alter-ego and business advisor to CEOs and the C-suite.

David Friedman is currently an independent entrepreneur, investor, and business advisor for tech and service companies.  He is a member of the TechCoastAngels of Orange County and serves on the software/hardware evaluation committee.  He has worked on assignments ranging from cyber security and wireless health to online commerce portals, to healthy food and snacks.  He plays at the intersection of technology and the customer; his real love is commercializing technology to meet the needs of customers.

In his corporate career, he has helped companies build top line revenue growth and EBITDA while mentoring the next generation of business leaders. David had been executive vice president and Chief Marketing Officer for ATX Group which provides telematics and information services to automobile manufacturers and its clients.  At ATX, he was the driver of their new strategy which integrated services in the car with the capability of the Internet off-board and on-line, making the human machine interface available on smart phones and personal navigation devices.

Previously, he was Vice President, Marketing and Direct Sales at Connexion by Boeing, and commercialized the first Wi-Fi services available to passengers onboard commercial airplanes.  Through his efforts, nearly 500,000 global customers had the opportunity to use Connexion’s service in flight in the first two years of operation, with passenger satisfaction levels exceeding 90 percent.  And Connexion served as a model for the current in-flight internet providers.

Prior to Boeing, Friedman served as VP, Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer for U.S. Cellular in Chicago, where he was part of the executive team that grew revenue from $570 million to nearly $2 billion in fewer than 6 years. He also held executive positions with Covia Technologies, Ameritech Services and RCA, and has engineering experience with the Bell Labs, MCI, and the federal government.
