David Horowitz is CEO of the Horowitz Group, a self-funded private equity office in Laguna Niguel. He took over the small family ready mix concrete business, Standard Concrete, upon graduating from Pomona College, then grew the business for 17 years. The business was sold to a large Belgian cement company in 1990, and the Horowitz Group now operates a family office from their community center in Laguna Niguel called Plaza de la Paz. After accumulating some real estate assets through the 1990’s, the Horowitz Group invested in the start-up of Sprouts Farmers Markets in 1992. Most recently, the family invested in a new fast casual dining concept in Los Angeles called ‘Lemonade.’ Mr. Horowitz spends much of his time with philanthropy having led the American Cancer Society in Orange County during much of the 1990s, and participating with CASA as a contributor, advisor, and volunteer through the 2000s. Over the last ten years, he has been active with Mind Research Institute, Great Park Conservancy, UCI’s Genetics and Epidemiology Research Institute, and as a Trustee of Cate School in Carpenteria. Most recently he is also busy as Co-Chair for the Discovery Science Center’s new expansion campaign at their campus in Santa Ana, and beyond. He lives in Shady Canyon with his wife, Michelle, and has two grown children who now reside locally. His son, Adam, is COO of the Horowitz Group, and his daughter, Emily, is on the DSC board of directors.
