    Alice Shin is creative director and one of the founding members of Kogi, an LA-based taco truck that has turned from renegade, stray Korean lonchera to an iconic LA traveling landmark in just over two years. Credited as the social media guru behind Kogi, Alice is quick to share the limelight. Kogi’s first “big break” came when it contacted food bloggers about trying its tacos. The bloggers then wrote rave reviews about Kogi. Kogi’s subsequent use of Twitter to announce its location led to considerable buzz on social networking services, leading Newsweek to proclaim Kogi “America’s first viral eatery.”

    Richard Matthew, Ph.D.

    Organization: Center for Unconventional Security Affairs


    Richard Matthew, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of California Irvine and the founding director of the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs (www.cusa.uci.edu). He spends much of his time in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, studying how environmental stress contributes to violent conflict and other types of crisis. For several years he has worked closely with the United Nations to integrate natural resource management and climate change adaptation into peace-building efforts, participating in various field assessments and directing one in Sierra Leone. He teaches courses on sustainability and social enterprise.

    Jean de Kerguiziau de Kervasdoué is professor of health economics and management (Conservatoire national des arts et métiers – CNAM) and the dean of the “Ecole Pasteur/CNAM de santé publique” in Paris. A member of the French “Académie des technologies” (French Academy of Technology), he studied in France as well in the United States where he earned a Ph.D. and MBA at Cornell University.

    Lindsey Duncan’s journey into the natural health field stemmed from serious health problems he experienced as a child. He struggled with his own health issues for the greater part of his childhood. Conventional medicine failed to help him, but an introduction to nutrition and alternative health care completely changed the quality of his life and health forever. A homeopathic doctor, Lindsey opened Home Nutrition Clinic in Santa Monica, California in 1985.

  • Matthew Peterson, Ph.D.

    Matthew Peterson, Ph.D.

    Matthew Peterson, Ph.D., is Co-Founder, Senior Institute Scientist, and Chief Technical Officer of the MIND Research Institute. He is the creator of MIND’s Math instructional software that teaches math to students using a unique non-language-based approach. Matthew was recently featured on Discovery Channel’s “Profile Series.” His focus is on developing math learning environments that initially convey sophisticated concepts visually, enabling students to gain a solid conceptual understanding of mathematics regardless of language proficiency. After completing his undergraduate degrees in Biology, Electrical Engineering and Chinese Language and Literature from UC Irvine, he went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UC Berkeley. Matthew’s cutting-edge teaching methods are currently benefiting over 300,000 students. He is the author of “MIND’s Algebra Readiness” textbook, adopted in California in 2008, in addition to other technical and scientific publications.

    Sizhao “Zao” Yang is currently the COO/co-founder of BetterWorks, Inc., a perks platform for small medium businesses. Previously, he co-created Farmville, and was the CEO/co-founder of MyMiniLife, Inc., which was sold to Zynga Game Networks, Inc. After the acquisition, MyMiniLife became the common technology platform at Zynga and powers 150 million monthly users including games like Cityville, Farmville, and Frontierville.

    Joseph A. Maciariello is a man of conviction, determined to carry on the beliefs and legacy of his longtime collaborator Peter Drucker. Joseph collaborated with Drucker on the bestselling book, “The Daily Drucker” and “The Effective Executive in Action.” Through his ongoing work with The Drucker Institute, he revised Peter Drucker’s “Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices”, published as “Management Revised”, and Peter Drucker’s book “Management Cases” published as “Management Cases Revised”. Joseph, along with Karen Linletter, co-authored the recently released book, “Drucker’s Lost Art of Management: Peter Drucker’s Timeless Vision for Building Effective Organizations” upon which Joseph’s TEDx talk is based.

    Harmon Parker is the founder and director of Bridging the Gap, a non-profit organization that builds pedestrian footbridges over perilous rivers for rural, marginalized communities in Kenya.

    Harmon was first introduced to Africa in 1985 when he was invited to build a home for missionaries in Democratic Republic of Congo. Later, he participated in establishing and building a school in western Kenya. In 1990, he and his wife, Teri with their young son Josh, moved to Kenya and began what has become their life’s work.

    Henry T. Nicholas, III, is an entrepreneur, business leader, philanthropist and a nationally recognized leader in the crime victims’ rights movement. He is the former President, Chief Executive Officer, and co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. Dr. Nicholas served in these positions well as serving as Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors from the company’s founding in 1991 until January 2002. Under his leadership Broadcom grew to $1 billion in revenue faster than any U.S.-based technology company. Today, Broadcom has annual revenue of more than $7.0 billion and employs more than 8,000 people worldwide. Broadcom developed the broadband communications semiconductor technologies that today serve virtually every enterprise, residential, and consumer marketplace. This involved pioneering the basic technologies for digital cable, cable modems, ADSL, Direct Broadcast Satellite, gigabit Ethernet, and integrated Ethernet switches. Dr. Nicholas was formerly founding director of microelectronics at PairGain Technologies, developing the basic technologies for HDSL and ADSL. Prior to joining PairGain, he held senior positions at TRW.

    Dondeena Bradley, Ph.D., is Vice President, Global Design and Development, Nutrition Ventures for PepsiCo. She is responsible for designing new solutions that target special nutritional needs of consumers with diverse health issues, such as obesity and diabetes. Dondeena’s prior role at PepsiCo was leading the nutrition organization responsible for delivering global strategies for nutrition standards, nutrient fortification, and education programs.

    Lisa Naugle is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dance at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Lisa earned her MFA from Tisch School of the Arts and her Ph.D. in Dance Education at New York University. Since 1991, Lisa has been exploring the convergence between choreography and improvisation for performances with digital media. Her choreography has been presented nationally and internationally in Canada, England, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, China and Korea.

  • Mohamed A. El-Erian, Ph.D.

    Mohamed A. El-Erian, Ph.D.

    Mohamed A. El-Erian, Ph.D., is CEO and co-CIO of PIMCO, a global investment management firm that manages more than $1.3 trillion of assets. A widely recognized thought leader, he is credited as being a co-creator of the post-global financial crisis concept “The New Normal,” and was a foreseer of the impact of many political and natural events on the world economy. Mohamed was educated at Cambridge University and Oxford University. He spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund before moving to the private sector where he served as managing director at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup in London before first joining PIMCO in 1999. In 2006-07, Mohamed was President and CEO of Harvard Management Company (HMC), the entity managing Harvard’s endowment and other related assets, and has been a faculty member of the Harvard Business School.
