Kai Tao is an experienced technology investor through Park One Capital, his family office, which invests in both private and public equities utilizing a variety of capital structures. Park One Capital seeks innovative disruptive business opportunities to back, working actively with entrepreneurs to create value by leveraging its many years of industry and financial relationships. Kai is also a co-founder of K5Launch, an innovation focused startup accelerator.
Previously, he was the President and Chief Investment Officer of Watson Asset Management, a hedge fund with peak assets of $300 million, specializing in long short US Equities. Under his leadership, Watson Asset Management became an early pioneer in recognizing the impact of US companies outsourcing their manufacturing needs to Asia. By developing extensive relationships directly with the manufacturers, the firm was able to identify and capitalize on early indications of supply and demand inflection points. Kai began his investment career in 1994 as an analyst in the corporate finance group of First Albany Corporation where he worked on small-cap mergers and acquisitions, private placements and public offerings across a wide range of industries.
Kai contributed the chapter on Fundamental Investigative Investing for the book Master Traders, published by John Wiley and edited by Fari Hamzei, and was a featured guest on the PBS show, Wealth and Wisdom. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
